Version 1.0 · Effective today
Umuchi is a digital health companion that helps you keep track of your health information, get plain-language answers about health topics, and reach help in an emergency. By creating an account or using any part of Umuchi, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use Umuchi.
Umuchi is a software tool. It is not a doctor, nurse, hospital, pharmacy, urgent care, or any other licensed healthcare provider. Umuchi does not practice medicine, does not diagnose illness, does not prescribe treatment, and does not replace professional medical care.
All content available through Umuchi — including responses from our AI Health Guide, symptom check results, first-aid steps, lab result explanations, medication information, and any other educational material — is provided for general informational purposes only. It is not medical advice. It is not a diagnosis. It is not a treatment plan. It is not a substitute for professional consultation, examination, diagnosis, or treatment by a qualified healthcare provider.
Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional with any questions you have about a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you read or saw in Umuchi.
If you think you may have a medical emergency, call your local emergency number immediately. In the United States, call 911. In the United Kingdom, call 999. In the European Union, call 112.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an Umuchi account. If you are between 13 and 18 (or the age of majority where you live), a parent or guardian must review these Terms with you and agree to your use of Umuchi.
When you create an account, you agree to provide accurate information and to keep it accurate over time. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your password and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.
You may delete your account at any time through Settings. When you delete, your personal information is permanently removed within 7 days. After that period, your data cannot be recovered.
Umuchi includes tools designed to help during emergencies, including the Panic Button, the Daily Check-In (dead-man's switch), the ER Card, and Helping Someone (bystander mode). These tools depend on factors outside our control, including but not limited to: your internet connection, your phone's cellular signal, your battery level, your location permissions, the availability of third-party messaging services, and whether your emergency contacts respond.
Umuchi does not replace professional emergency services. We do not promise that any alert will reach your contacts, that any check-in escalation will result in help being dispatched, that any location share will be accurate, or that any first-aid information will apply to your specific situation. If you are in an emergency, call your local emergency number first.
The AI Health Guide and related AI-powered features (Symptom Check, Read a Label, Lab Result Explainer, Is This True?) use artificial intelligence models trained on health and medical information. These models can produce inaccurate, outdated, incomplete, or contextually wrong information. They may fail to identify dangerous symptoms. They may give advice that is not appropriate for your medical history, your medications, your age, your pregnancy status, or other factors.
You agree to use AI-generated content as one input among many, not as the basis for any health decision. For anything serious, anything new, anything that does not improve, or anything that gets worse, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
Umuchi may rate-limit or charge for AI use to manage costs and ensure availability. Current limits are shown in your account.
If our system detects keywords suggesting you may be in a mental health crisis or considering self-harm, Umuchi will redirect you to crisis support resources, including hotlines such as 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline in the United States). These resources are operated by third parties. We provide them because they may help, but we cannot guarantee the availability, response time, or outcome of any third-party crisis service.
If you or someone near you is in immediate danger, call your local emergency number. In the United States, call or text 988.
Our collection, use, storage, and protection of your information is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using Umuchi, you also agree to the Privacy Policy.
Umuchi allows you to create profiles for other people you help — children, aging parents, patients, or others in your care. By creating a profile for another person, you represent that you have the legal authority and consent to do so, including under laws such as HIPAA (in the United States) and equivalent privacy laws elsewhere.
You agree to safeguard any information about other people that you enter into Umuchi and to only share access with individuals who have a right to it.
Community Health Workers, school nurses, caregivers, and similar users who manage caseloads through Umuchi agree to comply with all applicable professional, ethical, and legal obligations of their role.
Umuchi offers a free tier with usage limits and optional paid plans with expanded access. Pricing is shown in the app. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges to your payment method until you cancel.

You retain ownership of the personal health information you enter. You grant us a limited license to store, process, and display that information solely to provide and improve Umuchi's services to you.
Umuchi is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do our best to keep Umuchi running smoothly, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access, error-free operation, or compatibility with every device. Scheduled maintenance, technical failures, third-party outages, or events beyond our reasonable control may make Umuchi unavailable from time to time.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy of information.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Umuchi, its founders, employees, agents, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages, including but not limited to damages for loss of profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, personal injury, emotional distress, or any other intangible loss, arising out of or related to your use of or inability to use Umuchi.
This includes, without limitation: damages arising from acting on information provided by the AI Health Guide or other features; damages arising from delays, failures, or unavailability of emergency tools, panic alerts, or check-in escalations; damages arising from data loss or breach; and damages arising from third-party services integrated with Umuchi.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total cumulative liability arising from or related to these Terms or your use of Umuchi shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred U.S. dollars ($100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of certain damages, so some of these limitations may not apply to you.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Umuchi and its founders, employees, and affiliates from any claim, demand, loss, liability, or expense (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from: (a) your use of Umuchi; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any law or third-party right; or (d) information you provided to Umuchi that turned out to be inaccurate or misleading.
We may update these Terms as Umuchi evolves. When we make material changes, we will notify you in the app and ask you to review and accept the new Terms before continuing to use Umuchi. The version number and effective date at the top of this document tell you which version is current. Your continued use of Umuchi after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of those Terms.
You may stop using Umuchi and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access to Umuchi if you violate these Terms, if we are required to by law, if we discontinue any feature or service, or for any reason at our sole discretion. Provisions of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including sections on Liability, Indemnification, and Dispute Resolution) will survive.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising out of or related to these Terms or your use of Umuchi shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Stanislaus County, California, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
Before filing any claim, you agree to first attempt to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us. If we cannot resolve it within 60 days, either party may proceed with formal legal action.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you waive any right to participate in a class action or class arbitration against us.
Umuchi is operated from the United States. If you access Umuchi from outside the United States, you do so at your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local laws. The services may not be appropriate or available in all locations.
If any provision of these Terms is held to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision shall be enforced to the maximum extent permissible, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Umuchi regarding your use of the service.
